SecurityStockWatch.com: Thank you for joining us today, Mike. Please tell us about your background and your role at Stanley Security.

Mike Molezzi: It’s a pleasure to speak with you. I’ll start by explaining my role, then how my background ties in. I currently lead product development for mechanical security, which spans commercial products (door automation and a broad range of door security hardware) as well as residential products (locksets and a broad range of interior and exterior hardware). We manage a broad portfolio of products and services with several well-known and respected brands like Stanley , Best, Safemasters, K2, Precision, Sargent & Greenleaf, Kwikset, Weiser, Baldwin , Price Pfister, and National Hardware. In addition, we work closely with Stanley Healthcare and Convergent Security Solutions teams to offer integrated access control and monitoring solutions. The background I bring to this role is a broad range of experience in technology and business operations, starting with a Ph.D. in Engineering and including several product development and operational leadership roles in aviation, healthcare, and now security. This role attracted me because I believe the accelerating convergence of mechanical and electronic technology in our industry provides a unique opportunity to make a step change in the effectiveness of security, and Stanley Security Solutions is uniquely positioned to make it easier for our customers with “intelligently integrated” solutions.

SecurityStockWatch.com: Any new product developments you’d like to talk about?

Mike Molezzi: As the term “solutions” in our name implies, one of the greatest challenges and opportunities in security is to develop products that work together well to solve a problem for our customers. Although we are always working on new products, we are also focused on making our products work better together to make it easy for customers to install and use them. I’d like to talk about two recent cases where we were able to provide a “plug and play” system with the right level of integration for the customer. In a sports and entertainment venue, we recently deployed our Commander system that provides a single point interface to manage online, offline, and wireless locks as well as associated video, intercom, and other building systems. This provides a big improvement in the efficiency of their security staff by allowing one person to access everything from a single console. It also improves security by providing real time access to relevant data and systems relating to an event, for example when a request for entry is made, the same screen shows the live video at the entry with the person’s access control system photo for effective verification. For a recent healthcare customer, we were able to provide an intelligent patient security system at a senior care facility that works seamlessly with our automated and manual door hardware. Without installing additional hardware such as magnetic locks, we were able to set up the system to allow doorways to open freely for staff and visitors, while they initiate an alarm and delayed egress (temporary lockdown) in case a patient attempts to make an unauthorized exit. These solutions are a direct result of strong relationships and active dialog with architects and facility management. Understanding their daily needs and challenges results in practical solutions for both convenience and security that also offer incremental value for users (such as patients) that can help our customers promote the use of their facilities.

Mike Molezzi: The critical message is that even with an advanced electronic access control system, you can't lose sight of controlling keys. Most of the world still relies on key access for either primary security or mechanical backup. Managing the master key system and the distribution of keys can be even more important than electronic credentials. This is why so many of our customers rely on patented keys to prevent unauthorized key duplication and use our direct-to-the-customer service model to help manage key systems, reducing the risk of cross-keying and unauthorized key distribution.
